Installation tips
Step 1: Prepare
Prepare your yard for the delivery of your lawn by following this checklist: arrange for same-day installation to avoid pallet burn and rot, ensure your yard is ready, and complete all necessary preparations ahead of time.
1. Complete any other gardening
If you haven’t done this already, you’ll need to make sure you have completed any other gardening, such as retaining walls, edges or paths.
2: Getting started
Remove any existing turf and spray with weed killer at least 14 days before your new turf arrives. Also be sure to remove any dead grass, and weeds, along with any rocks, stick or solid materials in the soil.
3: Soil analysis & pH test
Test your soil's pH level to ensure your lawn receives the necessary minerals and nutrients for optimal growth and health. Simply purchase a pH testing kit from a hardware store or plant nursery, collect samples from your yard, mix them together, add the dye, and wait for the sample to change color. Match the resulting color with the chart in the kit to determine your lawn's pH level, which should ideally be between 6 and 7.5.
Step 2: Install
For optimal results, lay your new lawn immediately after delivery. Contact GoTurf for assistance or questions during the process. (Note: laying the lawn may not actually be enjoyable.)
1. Where to start
When laying turf on a slope, start at the bottom and lay away from the stack to avoid damaging newly laid turf. Create a staggered brick pattern, using a string line or yard edge to ensure straight lines. Avoid gaps between turf slabs, which can cause issues during mowing. Cut turf as needed using a sharp shovel or serrated knife. Save any scrap pieces to fill gaps later.
2: Roll it out
Once you have the turf down, roll it out with a lawn roller to ensure the roots are against the soil and to make sure you have a nice flat and even surface once your lawn has grown in. If you don’t have a lawn roller, you can stamp the turf down with the flat of a rake instead.
Step 3: Aftercare
After installation, allow 3 weeks for the turf roots to establish before heavy use. Proper care is crucial for the survival and thriving of your lawn.
1. Mowing
Usually at around the 2-4-week mark, your new Go Turf lawn should be ready to mow. Keep your mower blades sharp and never take off more than a third of the leaf. This ensures your lawn will remain dense and encourages healthy growth. Mowing too short can put stress on the lawn and can lead to weed invasion. It’s important to keep your lawn a little longer during the warmer months as it supports water retention, keeping your soil and lawn healthy and saving you some money on your water bill.
2: Fertilising
Once you have the turf down, roll it out with a lawn roller to ensure the roots are against the soil and to make sure you have a nice flat and even surface once your lawn has grown in. If you don’t have a lawn roller, you can stamp the turf down with the flat of a rake instead.
3. Watering
Water your lawn less frequently but deeply to allow water to drain to the deepest levels and promote strong root growth. Test soil hydration by pushing a screwdriver into the lawn; an easier insertion indicates hydrated soil. Overwatering can damage and rot your lawn. Watch for signs of wilting or loss of green color to determine when to water. During hot weather, soak the lawn if it appears dry or turns brown.

Mid Feb 2023. Ordered Sir Walter turf for delivery to my house. Lady who took the order was very helpful with quantity to buy which was spot on. Delivery turned up on time. Driver went out of his way to put the turf exactly where it was wanted at the back of my property. The turf was in rectangular pieces about 1 metre x .75 metre -not in rolls.

We recently turfed our front yard and were extremely happy with our decision to use Go Turf. The quality turf we received exceeded our expectations, was great value for money and was free from weeds (unlike other turf we’ve seen on the market). Our lawn is now thriving. Thanks Matt for your wonderful customer service!

Really good customer service. I ordered 220m2 of Sapphire Buffalo turf which was delivered and laid 2 days later. The guys did an adequate job laying, but bear in mind your soil must be completely prepped beforehand. I knew this but didn't have the time to get the soil as flat and well prepped as I would have liked.

The most beautiful product! If you can make the trip out to beerburrum to pick up your grass, do it. The scenery is amazing with views of the bay and the glasshouse mountains. Especially if you're a city slicker. Very cool to see how they cultivate our beautiful turf! Thank you ladies my grass is incredible!!!
