Fencing material options

New fencing materials, as well as cheaper and lower-maintenance fences, are among the most exciting fencing trends that property owners are leaning towards in 2023. Demand for increased personal space and safety is also driving a surge in the popularity of fencing, and companies are aware that the current market needs some bang for their buck.

Sustainable fence materials

The use of environmentally friendly components has become increasingly popular in recent years, and this trend is carrying on into 2023. Fencing made from recycled materials, such as reclaimed wood or vinyl, is now becoming more popular. Our two favourite choices are below, but obviously, many materials are now available in this sustainable form.

  • Bamboo fence:
One of the most well-known fence materials, bamboo fencing, is both beautiful and environmentally friendly. Landscapers around the world enjoy the aesthetic of this natural material in conjunction with garden foliage, water features, and even the average backyard lawn.
  • The Eco-stone fence:
Eco-Stone is an attractive option because it is simple to put up, requires little maintenance, and is made from 25% recycled materials in colours like beige, black, grey, and brown. When you need discretion and safety on a tight budget, this is your best bet.

Inexpensive fencing ideas

The following materials are commonly used to fence backyards all over Australia. Before you make assumptions, take a look at some of these materials by doing a Google search. You will be surprised at how they are being used in modern fence design.

  • Aluminium fence:
The wrought-iron construction of an aluminium fence makes for a visually appealing yet functional boundary. However, if safety is a big priority, this may not be the best option for you.
  • Chain Link fence:
The chain link isn't everyone's first pick, but with a little ingenuity, it can be a low-cost, long-lasting, and low-maintenance option.
  • PVC white-picket fence:
PVC is the perfect choice when you are looking for a cost-effective solution and want a sturdy material for a fence.
  • Vinyl white-picket-fence:
Similar to PVC, but vinyl is much steadier. Simple to take care of, this is a perfect option for both security and privacy.

Traditional fence materials

There are some materials that have stood the test of time and continue to be used in traditional designs today. Our two favourites need no introduction.

  • Wood fence:
From traditional to modern, this is one of the most popular borders for any home or backyard. These fences are high-maintenance, which is their only real disadvantage.
  • Wrought iron fence:
This material gives your house an elegant and traditional look and certainly hasn’t gone out of fashion. These fences give your home a sense of security. The downside is that it will need a lot of upkeep and is quite expensive.

Modern fence designs in Australia

Whatever material you choose to go with, there are some aspects of design that Australian households are really beginning to embrace in 2023.

  • Minimalist fencing:
There has been a rise in the popularity of minimalist and streamlined designs in recent years, and this is predicted to continue. Simple, contemporary fencing styles that work with modern landscaping will become more common, so keep this in mind.
  • Privacy fencing:
Due to the rising trend of staying at home and hybrid work options, privacy fencing has remained a popular choice for homeowners. You can choose to install slats, screens, or even living walls to increase your level of privacy from the street.
  • Technology fencing:
Incorporating technology into more aspects of daily life is leading to an increase in the accessibility of smart fencing solutions. Motion detectors, intercoms, and automated gates are all becoming the norm.
  • Colourful Fencing:
Colours are in, though traditional fencing colours like white and natural wood tones will always remain popular. Add a sense of fun and playfulness to your backyard by painting the fence, deck, or furniture in bright, bold colours like blues, greens, and reds.

Mid Feb 2023. Ordered Sir Walter turf for delivery to my house. Lady who took the order was very helpful with quantity to buy which was spot on. Delivery turned up on time. Driver went out of his way to put the turf exactly where it was wanted at the back of my property. The turf was in rectangular pieces about 1 metre x .75 metre -not in rolls.

We recently turfed our front yard and were extremely happy with our decision to use Go Turf. The quality turf we received exceeded our expectations, was great value for money and was free from weeds (unlike other turf we’ve seen on the market). Our lawn is now thriving. Thanks Matt for your wonderful customer service!

Matt at Go Turf was a pleasure to deal with. Nothing was too hard and the Turf quality was fantastic. Go Turf's focus on looking after it's customers is outstanding and their commitment to ensuring customers are happy with their product is evidenced when the last thing they say is "let me know if you have any problems".

Really good customer service. I ordered 220m2 of Sapphire Buffalo turf which was delivered and laid 2 days later. The guys did an adequate job laying, but bear in mind your soil must be completely prepped beforehand. I knew this but didn't have the time to get the soil as flat and well prepped as I would have liked.

The most beautiful product! If you can make the trip out to beerburrum to pick up your grass, do it. The scenery is amazing with views of the bay and the glasshouse mountains. Especially if you're a city slicker. Very cool to see how they cultivate our beautiful turf! Thank you ladies my grass is incredible!!!
